How do flash floods happen?

Hurricane Lala brought flash floods to Hawaii, damaging homes. Flash floods are rapid, intense floods that occur with little warning, often in low-lying areas or near rivers, caused by heavy rainfall from storms like Lala. The ground can't absorb the water quickly enough, leading to fast-moving, dangerous currents that can sweep away vehicles and damage property.
