By using BriefTea, you agree to these Terms.
1. Definitions
"App" or "Service" means the BriefTea mobile application and our website at brieftea.com.
"Content" means news summaries, articles, and images in the App or on our website.
"User" or "You" means anyone who uses the App.
"We" or "BriefTea" means the operator of this service.
2. Acceptance and Eligibility
2.1 By using the App, you accept these Terms.
2.2 You must be: 13 years or older (with parental consent if under 18); able to enter into a binding agreement; and not prohibited by law from using the App.
2.3 If you disagree, stop using the App.
3. Licence to Use
3.1 You may use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes only.
3.2 You may NOT: copy, modify or redistribute the App or Content; use the App for commercial purposes; use bots or scrapers to access the App; or remove copyright notices.
4. Content and Editorial Process
4.1 How our summaries are made. BriefTea produces short news summaries (typically around 60 to 65 words). Summaries are generated with the assistance of AI tools and are reviewed before publication. Each summary is written in our own words as original reporting, commentary and analysis of publicly available news, and is not a substitute for reading the original article.
4.2 Editorial standards. Content is: generated from publicly available news reports and reviewed before publication; written in a short (around 60 to 65 word) format; attributed to the original source; and selected based on newsworthiness.
4.3 Sources, attribution and fair dealing. We rely on the fair-dealing provisions of UK copyright law (reporting current events, and criticism or review) and we cite the original publisher (for example "Source: Reuters") so readers can verify and read the full report. BriefTea is an independent, non-commercial project created for informational and educational purposes. It does not host advertisements, sell content, or generate revenue of any kind, and is currently maintained as a personal editorial experiment rather than a trading business. If any publisher, journalist or rights holder believes a summary misrepresents or inaccurately references their work, they can contact us at support@brieftea.com for prompt review, correction or removal.
4.4 Third-party articles. We author the summaries in the App. The full underlying articles are published by third parties; we do not control, host or verify that third-party content, and all rights in it belong to the original publishers.
5. Images
Images in the App and on our website come from three sources, and they are not all the same kind of picture.
5.1 Documentary photographs from public and openly licensed archives, for example Wikimedia Commons, UK Parliament and official government photostreams. These are genuine news photographs and they do show the named person, place or occasion. They are used under the terms of their licences, with credit where the licence requires it.
5.2 Licensed stock photographs, for example from Unsplash, Pexels or Freepik. These are genuine photographs, licensed for our use, chosen to illustrate the general theme of a story. They do not show the specific people, places or events in that story.
5.3 AI-generated images, created using AI image tools. Where an image is AI-generated it is labelled as such. AI-generated images are illustrations and are not photographs of real events.
5.4 How to read an image. Where an image is credited to a documentary source under 5.1, it is a real photograph of the subject named in the caption. Otherwise, treat it as a general illustration of the topic and not as proof that a particular event happened or that a particular person was involved.
5.5 Image rights. Images are used in accordance with their licences. We respect intellectual property rights and will remove or replace any image following a valid complaint to support@brieftea.com.
6. Third-Party Links
6.1 The App contains links to external websites and sources.
6.2 We do not control third-party content. You access external links at your own risk.
6.3 When you click a source link you leave the App. We are not responsible for content on external websites, their privacy or security, or the accuracy of third-party information.
7. User Accounts
7.1 Provide accurate information when creating an account.
7.2 You are responsible for your password security and all activity under your account.
7.3 We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms.
8. Prohibited Uses
You may not: use the App for illegal purposes; violate any laws or regulations; infringe intellectual property rights; transmit viruses or malware; harass or harm others; collect user data without consent; or send spam or unsolicited messages.
9. Content Accuracy and AI Limitations
9.1 No guarantee of accuracy. We strive for accuracy but make no guarantees about the completeness, reliability or accuracy of Content.
9.2 AI processing. Content is produced using AI tools, which can produce errors, inaccuracies, outdated information or incomplete summaries.
9.3 Verify information. You should verify important information independently. Any action based on App content is at your own risk.
9.4 "As is". The App and Content are provided "as is" without warranties.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
We disclaim all warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law, including as to accuracy or completeness of Content, uninterrupted or error-free operation, security of data, and fitness for any particular purpose.
11. Limitation of Liability
11.1 Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to £100.
11.2 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything that cannot be excluded or limited under English law. If you are a consumer, these Terms do not affect your statutory rights.
11.3 Subject to 11.2, we are not liable for: inaccurate or misleading information; AI errors or omissions; confusion arising from illustrative images; third-party content or links; data loss or corruption; lost profits or business interruption; or indirect or consequential damages.
11.4 You use the App at your own risk.
12. Indemnification
You agree to hold BriefTea harmless from any claims arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the App.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
13.1 These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
13.2 The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts, and you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live.
13.3 You must bring any claim within 12 months, except where a longer period is required by law.
14. Contact and Complaints
For questions, complaints or copyright concerns, contact us at support@brieftea.com. We aim to respond within 7 working days. For a copyright complaint, please include your contact information, a description of the copyrighted work, and the location of the alleged infringement in the App.
15. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted with an updated date. Continued use means you accept the changes.
16. Termination
16.1 You may stop using the App at any time.
16.2 We may suspend your access for violating these Terms.
16.3 Upon termination, you must delete the App.
17. Intellectual Property
All rights in the App, its Content and the "BriefTea" name and branding belong to us. You may not use our materials without permission.
18. Privacy
Your use is governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the App, you consent to the practices described there.
19. General
19.1 These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the complete agreement.
19.2 If any part is invalid, the rest remains in effect.
19.3 You cannot transfer these Terms. We can transfer our rights.
20. Acknowledgment
By using BriefTea you acknowledge that you have read and agree to these Terms.
