Thousands Boycott Supermarkets on Budget Day Over Food Prices

Thousands Boycott Supermarkets on Budget Day Over Food Prices

Dave Fergusson, CC BY-SA 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Thousands of UK shoppers pledged to stay away from major supermarkets on Budget day as part of a grassroots protest over rising food prices. The We're Not Buying It campaign asked people to avoid stores, apps, home deliveries and supermarket petrol stations for 24 hours, using local independent shops instead. Organisers want ministers to cap essential food prices and say Tesco could be targeted next.
