Self-employed fathers and partners will be able to claim statutory parental pay for the first time, the government has confirmed in the Budget. Around 150,000 new parents who currently miss out because they are not employees are expected to get two weeks of support worth up to £194 a week. Officials have not yet said when the new scheme starts or how applications will work.
