Around 70,000 small shops, pubs, cafés and leisure businesses in England will no longer pay business rates after Chancellor John Healey raised the small business rate relief threshold from £12,000 to £18,000 in the Budget. All other firms will see their rates frozen in real terms for two years, while vape shops and adult gaming centres will lose access to some existing business rate reliefs.
