Former chancellor Rachel Reeves has urged the European Union to take custody of about £175bn of frozen Russian assets and use the money to fund Ukraine's defence. Writing in The Times with three politicians from Germany, France and Canada, she warned Kyiv faces a desperate winter and a large funding gap next year. It is her first major intervention since leaving government earlier this year.
