Prime Minister Andy Burnham's Number 10 North office in Manchester is advertising 50 new jobs, including a deputy director to rewire the state. BBC analysis suggests basic salaries alone could reach £2.8m. The office, opened in July, already has 120 staff and will move to a permanent site in spring 2027. Conservatives called it more bureaucracy, while ministers insist existing budgets will cover the cost.
