70,000 Shops, Restaurants and Gyms to Pay No Business Rates

70,000 Shops, Restaurants and Gyms to Pay No Business Rates

Bryn Holmes, CC BY-SA 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons

About 70,000 more shops, restaurants, gyms and leisure firms in England will pay no business rates after Chancellor John Healey raised the small business relief threshold from £12,000 to £18,000 of rateable value. He said half of all such high street firms would now pay nothing, while rates for the rest will be frozen in real terms for two years. Pubs also get extra relief.
