Why target new students?

New university students are at higher risk of MenB because they often live in close quarters, like halls of residence, which helps infections spread more easily. Moving to a new environment also means mixing with people from different areas, potentially exposing them to new strains of bacteria. Vaccinating this group helps protect them and the wider community.
