Why are eclipses so visible?

Lunar eclipses are visible to a very wide audience because the Earth's shadow is large, and the Moon itself is relatively close. Unlike solar eclipses, where you need to be in a very specific, narrow path, a lunar eclipse can be seen from anywhere on the night side of Earth where the Moon is above the horizon. This explains why billions can see it.
