What causes an eclipse?

An eclipse happens when one celestial body blocks the light from another. In a total solar eclipse, the Moon passes directly between the Sun and Earth, casting a shadow and making the Sun appear to vanish. This rare alignment is why millions across Europe watched in awe, as the Moon briefly obscured our star.
