Evoke, the company that owns William Hill, says it has closed 270 betting shops over the past year and has blamed higher gambling taxes for the cuts. Duty on online casino games rose from 21% to 40% in April, and a new online sports betting duty arrives in 2027. The firm has urged ministers to avoid any further betting tax rises in next week's Budget.
