Why Clearing Sea Mines Is a Problem the World Has Never Actually Solved
Mines laid during World War II were never fully cleared. Decades later some break free from their anchors, drift with ocean currents and quietly wash onto beaches. They still contain live explosives. This is not rare. It happens every few years somewhere in the world. It tells you one uncomfortable truth about sea mines. Once they enter the ocean the sea does not give them back easily and removing every single one is nearly impossible.
