The temporary VAT cut on household electricity bills will now last until July 2027 instead of ending in April, Chancellor John Healey announced, taking about £50 off the yearly price cap. He also scrapped a planned levy on gas bills to fund hydrogen projects, which taxpayers will now cover instead. Household energy bills are still expected to jump by around £300 a year in January.
