Tax-Free Mileage Rate for Work Drivers Made Permanent at 55p

People who use their own car or van for work will keep claiming 55p a mile tax-free for the first 10,000 business miles, after Chancellor John Healey made May's temporary rate permanent. The rate above 10,000 miles rises from 25p to 35p. The Treasury says around three million workers, including carers, electricians and plumbers, will gain about £120 a year if they drive 6,000 miles.
