Scientists Killed Breast Cancer in Mice. No Side Effects.
Researchers at Oregon State University have engineered an iron-based nanomaterial that destroys cancer cells from the inside without harming surrounding healthy tissue. The material triggers two simultaneous chemical reactions inside tumours, overwhelming them with oxidative stress. In mice with human breast cancer cells, it achieved complete tumour elimination with no recurrence and zero systemic side effects. Published in Advanced Functional Materials, the team is now testing it against aggressive pancreatic cancer, which kills over 466,000 people globally every year.
