Covid Inquiry Finds Care Homes Were an 'Afterthought' in Pandemic

Covid Inquiry Finds Care Homes Were an 'Afterthought' in Pandemic

The UK Covid inquiry has found care homes were 'something of an afterthought' early in the pandemic, rejecting ministers' claims of a 'protective ring' around them as unfounded. More than 43,000 care home deaths involved Covid between March 2020 and July 2022. The 287-page report cites PPE shortages, with staff using bin bags, rushed hospital discharges without proper testing, and harmful, overly long visiting limits.
