Record 803 migrants cross English Channel in single December day amid surge in small boat arrivals

AI Generated (Gemini)

More than 800 migrants crossed the English Channel in 13 dinghies on Saturday, establishing a December daily record since 2018. The 803 arrivals brought the 2025 total to 41,455 people, surpassing the 36,816 who crossed in all of 2024. The surge follows 28 days of no crossings due to harsh weather conditions, creating a backlog of people waiting to attempt the dangerous journey from northern France.
