Patients with body dysmorphia should not get cosmetic procedures
New draft guidance from health officials recommends that individuals considering cosmetic procedures undergo screening for body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). If BDD is suspected, healthcare workers should not perform the procedure and instead refer the patient to a specialist. A cosmetic procedure could make BDD-related distress and behaviours worse.
