NHS maternity report finds racism, bullying and cover-ups
An interim report from the National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation, led by Baroness Amos and commissioned by Health Secretary Wes Streeting in June 2025, has found widespread failings across 12 NHS trusts in England. Investigators heard from more than 8,000 people, including over 400 families, and found reports of racism, bullying, and deaths allegedly misclassified as stillbirths to avoid coroner investigations. Baroness Amos said services are failing too many families. Her final recommendations are due in spring 2026.
