Minister wants to end forced GCSE resits for teenagers

Education Secretary Lucy Powell says she wants to end the "treadmill of failure" created by compulsory GCSE resits, as new results showed slightly fewer pupils passing maths at grade 4. Under current rules, teenagers who miss a standard pass in English or maths must keep retaking them after 16. Any change would be a major shift in post-16 education policy.
