Australia has introduced a digital duty of care bill that would force social media platforms to let users over 16 switch off algorithm-driven feeds and see posts only from accounts they follow. Communications Minister Anika Wells said firms must also shield young users from harmful content. Companies could face fines of up to A$109.2m, and would get 12 months to comply once the law passes.
