King's Estate Tries To Evict Century-Old Curry House

White House, Public domain, via Wikimedia (King Charles III, July 2023)

Veeraswamy, Britain's oldest Indian restaurant, is fighting the Crown Estate in court to stay on Regent Street after a century there. The Estate wants high-end offices in a £1bn regeneration scheme and opposes a new lease. Owners say it does not want an Indian restaurant amid smart offices and warn moving could cost £5m. The Estate says the plan is lawful. Hearings continue next week.
