Iranian president denies he threatened to quit over US shipping route negotiations

America and Europe are currently pushing for a short-term agreement to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz oil route. Hardline factions in Tehran strongly oppose the negotiations, and a figure linked to the supreme leader claimed the president wanted out. Speaking on television to mark two years in office, Masoud Pezeshkian dismissed the gossip and insisted he is staying put.
