Government accused of 'sneaking out' inheritance tax U-turn to avoid parliamentary scrutiny

Following protests by farmers, Labour has amended inheritance tax regulations concerning farmland. The threshold has risen to £2.5 million per individual, allowing couples to transfer £5 million. Victoria Atkins, the Conservative Shadow Environment Secretary, claims the pre-Christmas announcement bypassed parliamentary procedure due to the recess. Government data indicates that 1,100 estates will now be affected, a decrease from the previous 2,000.
