French doctor gets life for poisoning patients
A French court has given a life sentence to Frédéric Péchier, aged 53. The former anaesthetist poisoned thirty patients between 2008 and 2017. Twelve patients died, and eighteen were injured. Péchier contaminated IV drips at two clinics in Besançon, using substances including potassium. The court heard he aimed to cause cardiac arrests or haemorrhaging. Prosecutors stated his motive was to damage rivals and gain influence. Péchier, who denied all charges during the trial, now faces at least 22 years in prison.
