Charity says elderly face long waits in NHS

Age UK has criticized severe NHS A&E delays, likening them to a 'rot eating away at the heart' of the system and citing shocking cases of elderly individuals waiting in hallways. The charity's report details harrowing accounts including patients left in excrement for hours, dying in makeshift treatment areas, and one in three over-90s facing 12-hour waits. Karin Smyth, a government minister, has pledged a £450 million investment for urgent care centres while admitting the situation for patients is "unacceptable and undignified."
