Burnham Sets Out New Technical Education Routes For Teens
Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced new technical education pathways for 14-year-olds starting in September 2028, combining core subjects with job-linked skills training. Education Secretary Lucy Powell said the routes will be tailored to local industries such as manufacturing, artificial intelligence, construction and clean energy. Shadow education secretary Laura Trott criticised the plan while Liberal Democrat Munira Wilson called for safeguards letting pupils switch tracks later.
