Who are the officials?
Football matches are controlled by a referee on the pitch, assisted by linesmen (now called assistant referees). VAR (Video Assistant Referee) officials, like Jarred Gillett in this story, review incidents using video replays to advise the referee on clear and obvious errors or serious missed incidents, like potential handballs leading to goals.
