What is high pressure?

High pressure means the air above an area is heavier and pushes down more strongly. This often brings stable, settled weather, like the dry, fine days forecast for Tuesday to Thursday. The sinking air stops clouds from forming, leading to clearer skies and less chance of rain. It's the opposite of low pressure, which usually brings unsettled conditions.
