What is 'average' temperature?

'Average' temperature refers to the long-term mean temperature for a specific time of year, often calculated over 30 years. When the Met Office says temperatures will be 'around or higher than average', it means they're comparing current predictions to what's typical for this period. This helps us understand if the weather is unusually warm or cool.
