What is Anak Krakatau?
Anak Krakatau, meaning 'Child of Krakatoa', is a relatively new volcanic island in Indonesia. It emerged from the caldera of its famous parent volcano, Krakatoa, which erupted catastrophically in 1883. This recent activity, sending ash towards Jakarta, shows it's still very much an active and growing volcano, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
