What is a 'rogue planet'?

A 'rogue planet' is a celestial body, similar in size to a planet, that doesn't orbit a star and instead wanders through space. While the story mentions other planets colliding, a rogue planet entering our Solar System could also cause gravitational chaos, potentially destabilising orbits and leading to collisions.
