Earth at risk from four catastrophic threats from space
Our planet is at risk from four major cosmic threats, including asteroid impacts, which could happen again after the one 66 million years ago. Other planets colliding or Mercury's orbit destabilising the inner Solar System could also lead to Earth's destruction. The Moon drifting away will disrupt tides and climate, while the Sun expanding in five billion years will engulf inner planets.
