What is a hectare?

A hectare is a unit of area, often used to measure land, especially in agriculture and for large events like wildfires. One hectare is equivalent to 10,000 square metres, or roughly the size of a standard international rugby pitch. So, the Barcelona fire burning 35 hectares means an area equivalent to about 35 rugby pitches.
