Wildfires force 267,000 people to evacuate in France and Spain
Fires across France and Spain have now forced almost 270,000 people to leave their homes, with 197,000 evacuated near Bordeaux and 70,000 from villages west of Madrid. France has also recorded its worst wildfire year on record, with 69,473 hectares burned since January. Spain's prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, called the situation near Madrid "complex" and urged a "national pact against the climate emergency."
