Wildfires that broke out after successive heatwaves have destroyed 38 homes across the West Midlands, including in Stourbridge, Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent. On the hottest day, fire control took almost 2,000 calls, and crews were short of engines after an accidental fire sparked by farming machinery spread. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has promised a summit on wildfires in the coming weeks to discuss equipment and resources.
