Why does Clacton's ballot list 34 candidates?
Thirty four candidates will contest the Clacton by-election on 13 August, Tendring District Council confirmed, beating the previous parliamentary record of 26 candidates set at Haltemprice and Howden in 2008. Nigel Farage triggered the vote by resigning his seat, saying he intends to stand again for Reform UK. Acting returning officer Ian Davidson urged residents to check they are ready to vote.
