WHO warns hepatitis B deaths rising despite HIV progress

The World Health Organization said 32 million people were on HIV treatment by the end of 2025, with new infections down 42% since 2010. Ahead of World Hepatitis Day on Tuesday, it said viral hepatitis killed 1.3 million people in 2024, and hepatitis B deaths rose 17% since 2015. The report also flagged rising sexually transmitted infections and growing antibiotic resistance in gonorrhoea treatment worldwide.
