JD Wetherspoon plans to open up to 25 more pubs this financial year, split between new managed sites and franchises, after a strong start to its trading year. Like-for-like sales rose 8.2% over 14 weeks, led by bar sales, though growth slowed slightly over the most recent five weeks. Chairman Tim Martin once again attacked government policy, saying higher labour costs make pub pints dearer.
