Britons took out record amounts of cash last week after the government's Be Ready campaign urged households to keep three days of money, food and water at home for emergencies. Figures from the cash machine network Link show the average withdrawal hit £106.20 on Friday, beaten only by Christmas Eve. Weekly average withdrawals topped £100 outside the Christmas period for the first time, Link says.
