US Army orders $58.6 billion of Patriot missiles from Lockheed Martin
The seven-year contract runs until 2032 and aims to replace American weapons used up during the wars in Ukraine and Iran. Defence contractor Lockheed Martin will use the funding to expand its factories and make three times as many of the interceptors. Experts at a Washington think tank calculate that the US military currently holds fewer than 1,000 of the missiles in reserve.
