US and Iran hold first direct talks since 1979 as Islamabad negotiations begin
The United States and Iran began their first face-to-face negotiations since the 1979 Islamic revolution in Pakistan's capital Islamabad on Saturday afternoon. What were planned as indirect 'proximity talks' shifted to direct discussions between the two delegations. The US team is led by Vice President Vance alongside envoy Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Iran sent a 71-member delegation headed by Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Araghchi.
