French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said far-left groups organised violence in several cities during Saturday's cost-of-living and student protests, and that criminals joined in to loot. In a post on X he said peaceful protest has a place in the Republic, but fires, looting and attacks do not. At least 1,200 people were arrested across France, and Lecornu said that 150 police officers were injured.
