UK slaps 50% tariff on foreign steel to boost homegrown production
UK consumers and businesses may face higher costs as new government import tariffs could be transferred to customers. The Business Secretary presented plans to ensure half of UK steel is made domestically and reduce foreign steel quotas by 60% from July. A 50% charge applies to steel imported above the new, lower quota limits.
