UK faces £1bn claim from China over steel

A Chinese firm is demanding over £1 billion from the UK government, a dispute that could strain relations between the two countries. Jingye Steel, British Steel's owner, started a formal process on Thursday using an international treaty after the UK nationalised the Scunthorpe plant. The government took control last April, fearing 2,700 job losses if Jingye closed the works.
