Chancellor John Healey has reportedly decided not to lower the threshold for Labour's new mansion tax from £2m to £1.5m in his upcoming Budget. The annual levy on homes in England worth over £2m starts in April 2028. Lowering the threshold would have roughly doubled the number of homes affected, from 134,000 to 271,000. Healey reportedly fears that changing it early would weaken public support.
