Trump Makes Oval Office a National Monument
Dan Scavino / Executive Office of the President, public domain, via Wikimedia Commons
President Trump signed an order designating the Oval Office and adjoining rooms a national monument under the Antiquities Act. He said it would stop future presidents destroying his redesign. The order still allows ordinary redecorating, furnishings and changes that do not harm the historic structure. It follows controversy over the East Wing teardown for a planned ballroom. The White House is a National Historic Landmark.
