Peruvian wildlife officials seized more than 3,000 tarantulas hidden in dirty socks inside three suitcases at Lima’s Jorge Chávez airport. Two Germans and a Pole were bound for Germany when SERFOR spotted movement during a routine customs check. The specimens ranged from eggs to adults and were valued at about €500 each, or up to €1.5m in total. The three were detained on environmental crime allegations.
