Burnham Seeks Fresh Chagos Terms After US Pushback

Burnham Seeks Fresh Chagos Terms After US Pushback

Prime Minister's Office, Open Government Licence v3.0; U.S. Navy, public domain

Andy Burnham says he wants to reshape the Chagos deal after Washington objected. He told the Economist he will open fresh talks with the United States and study the Greenland arrangement for Diego Garcia. A treaty under Keir Starmer would give Mauritius sovereignty and lease the base for 99 years, paying £165 million for three years then £120 million yearly. Trump's opposition has stalled it.
